Stockholm’s public transport is operated by SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik) and covers the entire Stockholm County with an integrated system. As of 2026, zones A, B, and C have been abolished — a single flat fare covers the entire region (except Arlanda Airport surcharge).
Metro (Tunnelbana)
The Stockholm metro is known as the world’s longest art exhibition, with over 90 of its 100 stations decorated with sculptures, mosaics, and paintings.
- 7 lines (T10, T11, T13, T14, T17, T18, T19) across 3 main colour groups (Blue, Red, Green)
- 100 stations, 47 underground
- Hours: ~5:00–01:00 (extended on Friday/Saturday nights)
Commuter Trains (Pendeltåg)
SL commuter trains connect central Stockholm with suburbs and outlying towns:
- Lines 35, 36, 37, 38
- Arlanda Airport requires a regular SL ticket + a passage supplement (200 SEK)
Trams (Spårvagnar)
- Line 7 (Djurgårdslinjen): Historic tram to Djurgården attractions (Vasa Museum, Skansen, ABBA Museum)
- Lines 21–22 (Lidingöbanan): Light rail to Lidingö island
- Lines 25–26 (Saltsjöbanan): Coastal railway to Saltsjöbaden
- Line 30 (Nockebybanan): Suburban tram
- Line 31 (Tvärbanan): Cross-city light rail
Buses
Over 500 bus routes including city buses, suburban routes, and night buses (lines 100+). Red buses serve central corridors; blue buses (stombussar) are express services.
Ferries
Inner-city ferry lines (Ling 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 89) are part of the SL fare system — a practical way to travel between islands.
